Bean Soup

Wash beans thoroughly. Place in large kettle, cover with water. Soak 6 to 8 hours. Drain. Add 1 quart water, ham or hamhock. Simmer slowly 2 to 3 hours.

Add:  1 small onion
1 small can tomaotes
1/2 tsp chili
1 clove garlic, chopped
Juice of 1/2 lemon
salt and pepper to taste


Simmer about 30 minutes.

Serve with crackers and salad.
