Bean Soup with Cabbage and Ham

Bean Soup with Cabbage and Ham prepared by Sue Pottorff

Bean Soup with Cabbage and Ham

Use the following ingredients to your own taste.

Northern beans
Ham
Cabbage (whole head)
Chicken Broth (1 quart)
water
Salt
Pepper

Use leftover ham on the bone or buy ham hocks. I like lots of ham in this soup.

Use Northern beans (1 lb. package) Always rinse these beans as they sometimes have small rocks in beans. Cook as directed but I add chicken broth with water for more flavor. Beans cook fast so before they are fully cooked I add the ham, chicken broth and when almost done add the cabbage for added flavor. Use your own recipe for dumplings if you want to add some 30 minutes before serving the soup.

This bean soup is even better the next day. It freezes well if you can't eat it all!!!
