Beer Barbecue Chicken

1 tsp canola oil
4 lbs chicken breasts and thighs rinsed and dried
Salt and pepper
2 med onions cut into wedges
1 cup dark beer or ale
1 and 1/2 cups barbecue sauce

In large skillet, heat oil over medium high heat. Season chicken with salt and pepper. Brown chicken on both sides. Place chicken in a 4 to 5 quart slow cooker. Add onions.

In a bowl, combine dark beer and barbecue sauce. Pour over chicken and onions in slow cooker.

Cover and cook on high setting for 3 to 4 hrs or low heat for 7 to 8 hours.
