Cranberry-Apple Crumble

4 cups tart apples, sliced, peeled
3/4 cup chopped cranberries
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed firmly
1 cup flour
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Whipped topping

Place apples and cranberries in a greased 10 by 6 by 2 inch baking dish; sprinkle with granulated sugar and cinnamon. Let stand until sugar dissolves, then stir to mix. Meanwhile, beat brown sugar, margarine, flour and nutmeg at low speed until crumbly; stir half into fruit and the rest sprinkle on top. Bake in 250 degree oven for one hour. Serve warm with whipped topping. Serves 6. Can be made with just brown sugar and less white sugar, depending on the tartness of the apples. Its good without the whipped topping too.
