Golden Date Cake

Sift together:

2 and 1/8 cup flour, sifted
1 and 1/2 cup sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/3 to 1/2 cup eggs (beat hard for 2 minutes)
1 cup dates, pitted & cut
Beat eggs & dates 2 more minutes

Fould in 1/2 cup nuts, chopped
Add:

1/2 cup crisco
1 cup milk
1 and 1/2 tsp vanilla

Put in greased pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes. Ice with fresh orange icing.
