Wilted Lettuce

Old family favorite. This was always served with fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy.

4 cups washed and drained shredded lettuce
6 slices bacon
green onions
water
1/4 cup white vinegar
4 to 6 tsp sugar
salt/pepper

Fry bacon until crisp. Remove from pan and lower heat. Add vinegar and sugar and let simmer, gradually add water until just the right sweet/sour taste.

Lightly salt and pepper the lettuce, you may add a little sprinkle of garlic powder/salt and a light sprinkle of sugar to ensure the right sweet and sour taste when the warm dressing is poured over the lettuce. Add the bacon and serve.
